PET/CT and Cyclotron in Chulabhorn Cancer Centre
The project of Cyclotron and PET/CT in Chulabhorn Cancer Centre is collaborated with Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital and Faculty of Medicine Ramathibodi Hospital from Mahidol University, Faculty of Medicine Chulalongkorn University and National Cancer Institute, also with the equipment and academic support from International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). THA/6/033
Our Objective
  • 1. To improve the standard of care for Thai people.
  • 2. To do basic research for the new radiopharmaceutical isotope in diagnostic, evaluation and development of new treatment modalities.
  • 3. To do clinical research for the extended application of the established radiopharmaceutical.
  • 4. To provide more information about cancer leading to a new strategies for treatment of cancer.
  • 5. To provide and share the knowledge and technology among the collaboration group.

    PET/CT in Chulabhorn Cancer Centre
PET/CT is the new technology that merges PET and CT into one combined scanning system. The anatomical pictures produced by the CT scanner can be fused with the molecular images from PET, and physicians can then use these fused images to target more effective therapies. The used of PET/CT scanning has dramatically increased in the past five years as PET as fluorodeoxyglucose (F18-FDG) that produced from cyclotron has begun to play major in managing cancer patients. Increasing application are emerging incardiology, espectially in determining myocardial viability. PET has also demonstrated effective in the evaluation of brain disorders, particularly in patients with dementia and epilepsy. Recent studies have shown a high degree of sensitivity and specificity for detection of Alzheimer's disease, even at early stage and in some instances before the disease has become manifest.
